4 benefits of video based eLearning

1. Drastically reduce training costs

The costs savings for converting training to online courses is staggering for some industries. Many organizations incur huge costs when it comes to employee education, especially those with multiple locations and/or large offices. One might assume implementing some sort of video learning program would add to these costs. However, Microsoft found otherwise. Microsoft launched an internal video portal designed to deliver training to their employees with the aim of reducing classroom training-related costs. The initiative was a successful one, reducing their per-person cost of eLearning from $320/hour to just $17/hour. A saving of almost 95%.

2. Multi-sensory learning

Using videos to communicate ideas and concepts make learning engaging and insightful. Typically video consists of a combination of moving images, sound, and text. When the learner is watching video he or she is engaging in what multi-sensory learning, which literally means learning through two or more senses. When learners use multiple senses to grasp the depth of a concept, it allows for more cognitive connections. This facilitates deep thinking and understanding of the concept from different perspectives, and it also assists problem solving skills which are often crucial for better work performance.

3. Engaging visual learners

As the world has embraced the internet revolution, learning styles have developed or adapted in response. While most have a preferred learning it’s widely accepted that most people benefit from visual learning.
Learning styles in general are classified into three broad categories:
There are auditory learners who learn better through listening; kinesthetic learners who prefer doing an activity in order to learn; and there are visual learners who better understand and retain information when ideas, words and concepts are associated with images. These learners learn best through what they see, and videos – as you rightly guessed – are an ideal recipe for visual learning.

4. Safe, remote training – anywhere, anytime

While the predictions for growth in eLearning worldwide were already staggering leading to 2023, the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic have brought these predictions forward. Now, more than ever, remote training has become an essential in education across government, not for profit and private sectors.

More and more organizations are adopting videos for their corporate training strategy.

More and more organizations are adopting videos for their corporate training strategy. Videos in e-learning do more than just provide an additional layer of instruction.
