How Does Invisalign Treatment in Woodbridge and Manassas, VA Work Compared to Braces?
Some people might wonder, “Can plastic really move your teeth?” It’s a great question, and the answer is YES! The technology behind Invisalign has evolved so much in the last few years, some patients even finish treatment faster with Invisalign.
At your first visit, your dentist or orthodontist will take a 3D scan of your teeth – this is like a detailed map of the current “terrain.” From there, we will create a customized plan to shift and straighten your teeth into the right spots using a series of clear aligners. These aligners can be sent to your home and are exchanged every few weeks.
In addition to your at home treatment, you will have office checkups every 6-8 weeks to ensure your teeth are moving in the right direction. Depending on the severity of your crowding or spacing, clear aligner treatment usually takes about 12 to 18 months.
Can Invisalign fix overbites or underbites?
Another question we get often is, “Can Invisalign fix my bite problem?” The answer again is, yes! Using small knobs on the side of your aligners, elastics can be secured to help your jaw move at the same time your teeth are aligning.
After completing your Invisalign® treatment, your dentist may recommend wearing a retainer to maintain your newly aligned teeth. Retainers are important to prevent teeth from shifting back into their original positions.
Invisalign for kids, teens, and adults
Invisalign for Adults
Invisalign is one of the most popular orthodontic treatment options for Adults. Some considerations to keep in mind if you are considering Invisalign or clear aligner treatment as an adult are:
- While wearing the aligners, patients may only drink water
- Aligners must be worn for a minimum of 22 hours per day
- Patients must brush their teeth after each meal before re-inserting the aligners
- Invisalign helps many patients lose weight because snacking is more cumbersome
Invisalign for Teens
Invisalign Teen is gaining popularity as an alternative to braces for teens. Here are some considerations if you’re looking into Invisalign for your teen:
- Trays must be worn for a minimum of 22 hours per day
- Trays can be easily forgotten at restaurants or other venues
- While wearing the trays, your teen can only drink water
- Your teen must brush their teeth after each meal before re-inserting their trays
Invisalign for Kids
Invisalign for Kids – also known as Invisalign First – is fairly uncommon and is used for Phase 1 treatment (treatment for kids 7-12 with severe bite problems). Most children prefer traditional braces, which use bracket to straighten teeth.
